About This Area
Pena Lobo is a small highland village in the municipality of Sabugal, in the Guarda district of inland central Portugal. Historically it belonged to the former municipality of Sortelha until 1855, and today it forms part of the União das Freguesias de Pousafoles do Bispo, Pena Lobo e Lomba. The settlement sits in a rugged rural landscape of granite hills, small valleys and watercourses, with archaeological traces indicating very old occupation, including prehistoric and Roman presence. Locally it is also associated with the PR5 “Penha do Lobo” walking route and with a riverside leisure area that adds to its appeal as a quiet nature-based village.
